      Where to buy:

      Steam
      X-Plane.com

Why do i use X-Plane for civilian aviation:

Simply put, it´s a sim by a “borderline autist” (who just happens to be passionate aviator), to like minded people. That kinda brings everything else with it. Amazing dedicated community that is relentless in bettering the experience for others. There´s so many things coded and developed by fans for free, things that 90% of users ended up using every time they fly. If you are a tinkerer, you´ll love it.

It speaks to me the same level DCS does.. It´s just simming a step ahead of anything else. It will never be the prettiest sim, but it´s propably the most accurate representation of civilian aviation. Just be warned, it´s not going to be easy to get the best out of it.

Here´s something worth watching, interview with the creator of X-Plane:

      Resources:

      Patch notes
You will always find the latest patch notes here.

      X-Plane.org

The unofficial hub of X-Plane. 3rd party addons free and payware, active forum, news and portal.

      ORBX
Possibly the best payware scenery out there, for most sims.

      Navigraph

Latest navigation data, flight planner, charts etc..

      Addons i recommend:

X-Plane 12 is still in early access so 3rd party addons are quite limited atm. I´m only listing addons that i have 1st hand experience with.

      X-Camera (payware – plugin)
Adds boatloads of functionality to controlling and creating cameras. Couldn´t live without it.

      X-ATC Chatter (Payware – plugin)
Brings the radios to life with actual ATC chatter, that has been edited to suite a simulation. Has lot of configuration options and and amazing developer.

xOrganizer v3 (Payware – external app)
Allows easy management of your addons. Managing the scenery order can be annoying but this makes it easy and convenient. Not essential, but useful when addons pile up.

      XPRealistic V2 (Payware– plugin)
Adds a very large amount of audiovisual effects for extra immersion. Wide configurability. Not essential, but very cool nevertheless.

      Traffic Global (Payware – plugin)
Adds realistic ai traffic, with nearly no impact on fps! Not yet updated to be compatible with XP12, but there is a way to get it working with some trickery. You really want to get free TG Reality pack to go with it.

      SA 315B Lama XP12 (Payware – aircraft)
Legendary multirole chopper for those high altitudes. Brilliant developer and brilliant product. I had this already in XP11 and upgrading to new one was a no brainer.

Reality expansion pack addons (Payware – aircraft mod)
Brings realism to a level never seen in any sim. It´s virtually as close as you can get to owning actual aircraft and everything that comes along with it. I use this to spice up the default Beechcraft Baron.

Boeing 737-800 Zibo (Free – aircraft)
Propably the most legendary X-Plane freeware aircraft ever. Really transforms the default 737.

      Avitab (Free – plugin)
Aviation tablet with VR compability, but really good on flat screen aswell. Quickly find charts, read .pdf files, moving map, airport information, Navigraph integration etc. Absolutely essential.

      DiscreetFPS (Free – plugin)
Tiny fps counter, if you don´t want to use the more invasive Laminar one.

      FlyWithLua NG (Free – plugin)
Rapid development system that a lot of addons use. A must have.

      Terrain radar (Free – plugin)
Extremely usable utility with intergration to some aircraft.
